How did Ong'ondo Were's daughter eulogise him?

Ong'ondo's eldest daughter, Gynsen, stepped forward to honour her father in a moving eulogy delivered on what also happened to be her birthday.

Gynsen poured her heart out before mourners, describing the pain of losing her father just days before her special day.

She reflected on the huge void his death had left in their home and the strong bond they shared as father and daughter.

“My father, a light from our household is gone, a voice we loved, a place is vacant in our home which can never be filled. I always wish I could take away the pain you felt, Dad. In death, I love you still, no one could ever fill the place you left in my heart," Gynsen began.

Gynsen shared that this was her first birthday without him, a fear she had always dreaded.

“I wish you were here today with me to celebrate my birthday, and as I continue to grow into a better person. This was always my biggest fear: losing him. I don't know how I will live without Dad. Who will call me daughter or msichana wangu?" she said, visibly emotional.

Additionally, she recounted the values her father instilled in them: love for their home, contentment, hard work, and promising to keep his dreams alive.

“You went before I could achieve anything in life, but don’t worry Dad, I’ll buy that Mercedes you always wanted,” she added, vowing to honour his memory.

As she concluded her tribute, the presiding preacher paused the service to call her forward, offering a special blessing for her strength and the love she displayed during the loss.

The late lawmaker passed away on the evening of April 30 after being ambushed near City Mortuary and assassinated in cold blood.

The DCI has announced that the suspects behind the gruesome murder have been arrested as investigations intensify with new clues emerging.

What does Ong'ondo Were's family want?

During the requiem mass, Boid, one of Ong'ondo's sons, called for justice to be served, urging that those who sponsored his father's murder be brought to book.

He acknowledged that suspects had been arrested in connection with his father's death but emphasised the family's desire for the full extent of the law to be applied.

He stated that they not only wanted to know who committed the crime, but also who was behind it, pulling the strings.

Boid expressed their determination, saying they would not be intimidated, just as his father had been fearless.
