Siaya: 5 Heartbreaking Photos as 9 Family Members Who Died in Arson Attack Are Buried

Kenyans have joined the family that lost nine members in mourning their loved ones who were killed in an arson attack in Siaya county.

The victims were emotionally buried in a heartbreaking ceremony attended by friends, family and neighbours.

They were buried in a mass grave at Upanda village, Sigomre in Ugunja constituency in Siaya county on Friday, April 9.

"The saddest news ever," read the caption on one Facebook post, as social media users consoled the bereaved.

One photo captured the deep grief of pupils who mourned their schoolmates who perished in the house fire.

They could not hold back their tears as they remembered their schoolmates whose futures were abruptly ended.

They sat on the ground, as they mourned, while others struggled to keep their emotions in check during the tearful moment.

Others wiped their freely flowing tears with white napkins, knowing they would not see their friends again.

There was a brief moment of entertainment from the kids as well, which marked their tribute to their peers.

Despite the heaviness in the atmosphere, they gave their all, performing energetically to the grieving guests.

3. Bodies of Siaya family members killed in house fire paraded in coffins

Another photo caught the emotional scene as the coffins of the victims were arranged in a white tent.

They were placed close to each other and had a similar design and colour ahead of the burial planned.

Several mourners stood behind the coffins, as they looked sorrowful, gazing at the caskets in front of them.

4. Grannies sitting near coffins of Siaya family members

In another moving photo, two grannies were captured sitting next to the coffins as they painfully grieved.

They were covered in leso as they peacefully sat on the ground, as several mourners surrounded the coffins.

5. Siaya family members' coffins lowered into mass grave

The victims were buried in one massive grave, with three small coffins and the others looking larger, lowered.

Some soil had been thrown on top of the white coffins as mourners and the bereaved readied to say their final goodbyes.

Social media users flocked to the comment section to pen moving messages as the fire victims were given a befitting sendoff.

Siaya family appeals for justice, pleads for support

In related news, Mama Mary, mother to Jacinta Anyanyo, one of the fire victims pleaded for support.

She asked leaders and good Samaritans to ensure her surviving grandchildren continued their education.

Siaya deputy governor William Oduol led calls for justice, urging investigators to find the ones responsible for what was suspected to be an arson attack linked to land dispute.
