Caleb Onyango Onyatta's body remains stuck at the hospital over an unpaid hospital bill amounting to more than KSh 1.9 million.

How much is Caleb Onyango's bill?

A relative told TUKO.co.ke that Onyango had never experienced any major health issues before, but was diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) after being admitted to the hospital.

According to his in-law, Cosmas Orina, the 43-year-old remained under treatment for two months before passing away.

So far, the family has managed to raise and pay KSh 400,000 towards the outstanding bill after a series of fundraisers.

However, with more than KSh 1.5 million still owed, the hospital has withheld the release of the body, pending full payment.

Caleb Onyango's family pleads for help

Speaking to the press, family members expressed their distress and financial strain, noting that they have not abandoned their obligation but are unable to raise the remaining amount.

They are now pleading with the hospital administration to consider their situation and grant a waiver or a significant reduction in the bill to allow them to bury their loved one.

“We are not asking for much – just for our father and brother to be released so we can give him a decent burial. We have done all we can,” said a relative.

The family continues to camp near the hospital grounds, hopeful that their plea will be heard and that they can soon take Caleb Onyango home for his final rites.

Pushed to the limit, they made a public appeal for help, a decision that saw a well-sher come to their rescue.

Kangaru School, where Njeru's son attends, cleared the bill to allow them to bury the family man.
