The man, Joseph (not his real name), sought help through his nephew to locate a woman identified as Joyce Wanjiru Kimani, who bought land from him in 2011.

After negotiating the price, they drew up an agreement, and Joyce made full payment for the land.

However, Joseph lost her contact details but proceeded with the process of obtaining a title deed in her name.

In 2015, he successfully acquired the new title deed for Joyce’s land and waited for her to return and collect it, but she never did.

The elderly man had expressed his strong desire to hand over the title deed and related documents, stating that 10 years was far too long to wait.

The only information he had was from the woman’s national ID card, which showed her full names, date of birth (1973), and that she was born in Thika, although the ID was issued in Ngong, Kajiado county.

Elderly man discovers woman he sold land to died

Joseph’s nephew shared the details with philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro, who posted the appeal on Facebook in an effort to help find Joyce.

Just a few hours later, a social media user recognised the image shared and reached out, claiming to be a friend of Joyce.

She helped get in touch with Joyce’s firstborn son, who informed Nyoro that his mother passed away in December 2017.

“Satisfied with the response, the lady messaged me in the inbox. I asked a few questions and then got the son's number. He was very courteous and took me through the details I needed. Their mother had three children including two sons and a daughter,” said Nyoro.

The philanthropist said he conducted due diligence and had the son send a copy of Joyce’s death certificate and ID, which matched the details Joseph had.

“The son is pleased with the information. It’s a development that caught them by surprise, but they are very happy. I’ve connected them with the man who contacted me initially — Joseph’s nephew,” Nyoro added.

He further shared that both families had now spoken and agreed on how and when they would visit the parcel of land together.

Despite learning of Joyce’s death eight years ago, Joseph was overjoyed to be able to present the documents to her family.
