Jayden’s mother, Sharon, was inconsolable, surrounded by loved ones who struggled to offer words of comfort during this harrowing time.
The sombre ceremony was attended by hundreds of mourners, including relatives, neighbours, and local leaders, all united in sorrow and disbelief over the brutal circumstances surrounding Jayden's death.
“This is not just a crime against one child, but a reflection of the growing shadow of gender-based violence in our community,” said one speaker during the burial. “We must not remain silent.”
The heinous incident has reignited public outrage over the rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV) in Kericho County, with many calling for urgent, united action.
Residents have appealed to law enforcement, religious leaders, elected representatives, and community-based organisations to address what many now call a crisis.
One of the CBOs in the area, identified as Voices for Justice, issued a strong statement at the burial, vowing to pursue justice for Jayden:
“We shall follow up the case in court. Justice must be served.”
Local resident Clare Chero made a passionate plea to religious leaders, the Women Representative, nominated MCAs, and civil society:
“Please, organize community engagements to address this crisis before more lives are lost.”
Another mourner expressed fear and frustration over the judicial process, saying,
“It will hurt seeing the killer released by the court after being granted bond.”
Meanwhile, the suspect remains at large, with calls mounting for authorities to act swiftly and bring him to justice.
Police have launched a manhunt, but the community continues to demand greater urgency.
As the sun set over the hills of Kipkelion East, a small coffin was lowered into the earth, marking the end of a young life taken too soon. May Jayden Kipngetich rest in eternal peace.
