Mary Kiambia had been taken to Thika Prison after purchasing scrap metal that had been stolen by a dealer.

Both she and the seller were locked up, and the police demanded KSh 30,000 for her release after the incident.

Margaret Muchiri, Kiambia’s daughter, took her plea online through Karangu Muraya, seeking financial help.

She added that she was living with her cousin in Nairobi and caring for her newborn baby, who was only two months old.

Her father did not have a stable job and relied on inconsistent menial work to support the family.

He worked alongside his wife, but their combined income was not enough to cover the bond demanded by the police.

Muchiri also claimed that her father’s family had sidelined them and even expressed happiness upon hearing that her mother had been jailed.

Their resentment, she said, stemmed from greed over a piece of land given to her by her husband.

In a call with TUKO.co.ke, Muchiri expressed her great relief after her mum was released, adding that she was worried so much for her.

"For me to seek public help, of course, I was at my end. For mum to be in jail with the various challenges at home was not easy. We were very worried, and we feared she might be there for longer than expected, and that it could be a big case.
I want to appreciate all Kenyans for coming through for us. If it had not been for them, then I don't know where we would be right now," she said.
