How did Kenyans mourn Father Allois Cheruiyot ?

The cleric was shot dead while on his way back to the Tot parish after leading prayers in Elgeyo Marakwet.

"The saddest thing on social media today...never have I cried for a stranger like this," said a netizen Identified as Imelda Okemo, who shared the video on Facebook.

The raw grief over the cleric's death swept over Tot in Eldoret all the way to social media, where people mourned him with a lot of pain.

According to the people who posted, the cleric only stood on the pulpit with nothing but hope and love, preaching unity, and healing the bruised ones.

"He has been silenced by the very violence he spent his life fighting," said Okemo.
"He was a church father, a friend, a shepherd. He didn’t just speak peace; he became its living example in a land where bullets often speak louder than prayers," she added.

Allois’s parishioners did not need words to convey their feelings; tears that flowed freely said it all. They loved him deeply and mourned him together during this difficult time.

Father Allois's murder: William Ruto, other leaders mourn

Since Father Allois's murder, Kenyan politicians have been joining the country in mourning the priest and demanding justice.

In a statement, President William Ruto joined the nation in mourning the priest, calling for speedy investigations and promising that the killers will be caught.

"Our condolences to the church, the faithful of St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Parish, Diocese of Eldoret, for the loss of Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett. Fr. Allois was a tireless promoter of peace and a true faith leader whose sermons were genuine, clear and targeted. May God grant the family and friends the strength to bear this painful death. We will hunt down his killers as we commit to restoring peace in the Kerio Valley," he said.

On his part, Elgeyo Marakwet County governor Wisley Rotich shared moving pictures after attending the priest's memorial at his home.

"Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett was an extraordinary servant of God, a man whose dedication, zeal, and charisma left a lasting impact on those he interacted with. His killing is a big blow to the peaceful gains in the Kerio Valley," he said.

Interior CS Onesmum Kipchumba Murkomen also visited the family and promised to do everything in his power to nail the suspects.

"We will make sure that we hand down the harshest punishment to the perpetrators of these heinous acts," he promised

6 suspects of Father Allois Cheruiyot murder arrested

Six suspects are now in police custody over the death of Father Cheruiyot.

According to NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, GSU officers were deployed to Kabartile village shortly after the killing and successfully apprehended the suspects.

Authorities clarified that preliminary investigations ruled out banditry or cattle rustling as a motive, suggesting the attack on Cheruiyot was premeditated.
