"Basically, I was alone because none of my family members showed up. It was not news though because I had struggled so much in school with nobody to even ask help from,' she told TUKO.co.ke.
When asked why Synthia's parents did not show up on such an important day, Synthia replied, 'They didn’t come for reasons known to themselves."
Why Synthia needed to be celebrated
Getting an education for Synthia was not easy right from high school and things eased when she got help from the Equity Group Foundation through the Wings to Fly Scholarship.
"My high school scholarship ended soon after high-school so I had to find a way of joining university," she said.
With the help of the organisation, Synthia enrolled for a Bachelor of Education Arts-English and Literature and a Certificate in Leadership Development and Mentorship from Kenyatta University
Although she gave it her best at the institution, graduation day did not come easily for Synthia, and she certainly needed to be celebrated that day.
"I had deferred twice because I didn't have school fees. The deferrals were very painful because they happened just after I had tried so hard to get fees but in vain. You see, you start classes hoping to get the money before the deadline, but then the deadline arrives, and you still don’t have it," she said.
At university, Synthia solely relied on gigs like Mceeing, roadshows, and typing assignments for people to survive. It was, therefore, a journey worth celebrating, but since she wasn't celebrated, she picked herself up, dusted herself off, and started working on her life.

How did she join YALI?
Apart from her degree, DSynthia sought to advance her professional standing and that saw her joi YALI in 2019 to advance her leadership journey in Public Management. She later started practicing civic leadership.
"I'm currently working with several other civil organisations to advance human rights and equality and fairness," she said.
Is her journey in teaching on course?
Synthia currently works with Teach for Kenya in Kayole’s informal settlements, bridging the education gap by ensuring all learners receive quality education regardless of socioeconomic background.
"I have also founded an initiative called the Jenga Wellness Initiative, a mental health advocacy network, cushioning learners in schools and colleges against acute mental health challenges spanning from traumatic childhood experiences," she said.
"I derive joy in seeing a world where children feel safe, loved, appreciated, embraced, seen and heard," she added.
Synthia is married to a handsome man who is also a pastor and she says he has supported her a lot.
"We are blessed with one little girl. God has given us strength in many battles," said the dedicated teacher.
Graduate all alone as mum lacks fare
In another story, Phillip Solonka touched many hearts when he was seen walking home all alone after his graduation ceremony
At the time, Solonka was all alone in the compound after everyone else had left because his mum lacked the fare to show up.
A native of Namanga, Solonka is the child of a single mum and was taken to school by a well-wisher, who hailed from Meru county identified as Anthony.
After graduation, the Bachelor of Education degree holder just walked to his friend's house and life went back to normal.
