Kiambu: Family of Woman Who Died after Delivering Baby 1 Month Ago Seeks KSh 4m Hospital Bill

Kiambu: A grieving family is seeking to raise a KSh 4 million hospital bill so that the body of beloved Purity Njoki can be released for burial.

What happened to Njoki?

In an Instagram post, comedian Teacher Wanjiku shared that 36-year-old Njoki was a vibrant and radiant lady and mother.

Over the last nine months, she had a normal, healthy pregnancy and even worked on the farm until the eve of Sunday, May 6, 2025, when she was taken to the Radiant Group of Hospitals, Kiambu branch, to deliver.

The next day, it was decided she would have to go in for an emergency cesarean section. Unfortunately, after the doctor delivered her baby, she didn't wake up and was transferred to the ICU Pangani Branch.

"She did not improve, and as a family, we decided to transfer her to the Nairobi Hospital intensive care unit (ICU), where she was stabilised and continued treatment until her demise," said the Wairia family.
"She was really looking forward to bringing the blessing she was carrying to the world," said TeacherWanjiku.

How much is the Nairobi Hospital bill now?

Wanjiku said that on the day before her demise, Njoki had been transferred to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) and was stable.

"Unfortunately, she took a downward turn at 1:15 pm and despite all the efforts of the critical care team, she succumbed at 2pm," she said.
"She left a beautiful baby boy who is six weeks old.The gift of life to our family, Baby Wairia Macharia, is doing well and growing by the grace of God. Please help Njoki; she is still in the morgue one month later. A little goes a long way," she added.

The initial bill was KSh 7,072,799 and the Wairia family paid KSh 3,061,200. The balance was KSh 4,011,599.

"Our fundraising efforts have yielded, KSh. 491, 512.00," said the family.

MPesa PayBill is 80 627 81 and name is Purity Njoki Funeral Fund.

"This is her fourth week in the morgue as we are struggling to raise money for the outstanding medical bill," said the family.

Church minister's wife dies during delivery

In another story, Jesus Compassion Ministry members were thrown into mourning after a church minister who plays the keyboard lost his wife, who had gone to deliver her baby.

Bishop Muthee Kiengei took to Facebook to mourn beautiful Magdalene Njoki Mburu who died while bringing life on earth.

At the time, Kinegie shared that the church was going to stand with Njoroge's family during the hard times.
