Uasin Gishu Mum Emotionally Seeks Help to Repatriate Body of Daughter Who Died in Saudi 8 Months Ago

A cloud of sorrow hangs heavy over Kiplombe village in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu county, as a devastated family continues to mourn their loss.

Martha Wanjiru had travelled to Saudi Arabia in search of greener pastures to better her life and that of her family.
In July 2024, she tragically passed away, leaving her family reeling in shock and anguish.
However, nine months later, the family has still not been able to repatriate the remains of the young woman.

"I remember after a month, I could no longer reach her on the phone. She was offline. When I sent her a message, it was not delivered. All our efforts were futile. I even called her uncle and asked him to reach out to her, to try and contact her to check if she was okay," narrated Jane Njoki, Wanjiru's mother.
Njoki and her family resorted to visiting the agency that had sent her daughter abroad to work as a house help.
Upon arrival, they were greeted with the devastating news of their daughter’s unfortunate demise.
"When we got to the office, we were informed of what had happened. We were told that our daughter had died of a heart attack," Njoki continued.
Martha Wanjiru opens up on seeking help from government offices
The family has since been seeking ways to repatriate Wanjiru's body from the Gulf so they can give her a proper send-off.

They claimed the agency demanded KSh 1 million to facilitate the repatriation, a sum the family has struggled to raise.
"We have walked from one office to another. We visited Alfred Mutua's office and the office of the diaspora, but we have not received any assistance. I am pleading with the government to help me. If there is any Good Samaritan out there who can help me with this issue, I will appreciate it. All I want is to bring my daughter home and bury her," she pleaded.
Wanjiru's brother tearfully appeals for help
Wanjiru's brother could not hold back his tears as he also desperately appealed for help, echoing his mother’s words.
He spoke with pain, seeking support from well-wishers to help his family repatriate his sister’s remains.
"All I ask is for help to bring back my sister’s body so we can bury her. We do not want much—just that, and to know what really happened," said William Njoroge emotionally.

Kenyan granny seeks help to repatriate grandchild's body
In another story, a Kenyan grandmother made a similar appeal to Kenyans following her grandchild’s death in Saudi Arabia.
The distressed elderly woman was captured in a video pleading for help to return her grandchild’s body home for burial.
She appealed to Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi to assist her, as he had helped others in similar situations in the past.
