How did Tamara know Beba Beba?

In an emotional post on Facebook, a resident of the area identified as Westkagu Jaque said that Tamara's face was not new to that market, as she was practically raised within that environment.

"Your mother, Sue, went by her business with you by her side until such a time you overgrew her laps and could walk around and even attend school. It's in that market that you met your mum's friends and business partners which included Nicholas Julius Macharia," said Westkagu.

According to Westkagu, Macharia used to help Tamara's mum ferry market goods from one area to the next.

"Macharia practically saw you grow up to the bubbly, beautiful girl you were... you even made him your friend and your mother never thought that a day like today will ever come," she said.

According to Westkagu, Macharia was seen walking by with Tamara in Majengo and no one thought that there was anything out of the ordinary, as it was not the first time; her mother sometimes sent the two on errands together.

How did Tamara get lost?

"On that day, you never went home and your now worried mother, together with friends, searched with the hope of finding you either lost or maybe you had left with friends and lost track of time,' she said.

"When there was no trace of you, a report was made at the Nyeri police station that same night," she added.

Word finally went round that Tamara was missing and people swung into action and started sharing her missing person alert.

Who saw Beba Beba with Tamara?

"This morning (May 26) one of the people who had seen you with Macharia that night came to learn that you are missing and took a bold step to ask Macharia, commonly known as Beba whether it was him she had seen with you...in fact she asked him three times just to make sure she was hearing it correctly when he kept saying no!" said an angered Westkagu.

Notably shaken by the turn of events, Beba Beba kept following the said person (a young lady) asking her in an intimidating tone, what she was saying as if to intimidate her not to dare speak.

The lady, however, refused to be intimidated.

Unknown to Macharia, the route he had passed with Tamara had a business establishment with a CCTV camera and upon checking the footage, indeed it was Beba Beba who was last seen with Tamara.

Police immediately arrested Macharia and he had no option but to show them the whereabouts of the girl.

"Your one so called trusted friend escorted police and few of us who were searching for you to the scene and that is when reality dawned that you are no more! The jembe in that house and a shallow fresh grave were enough evidence of what had befell you," shared the Nyeri resident.

How did people react to Beba Beba's heinous act?

After the residents of Majengo learnt that Beba Beba had allegedly killed the little girl. They were angered prompting the detectives to take him back to the station, where Tamara's mum had already collapsed.

Later, the DCI came to the scene and the girl's body had to be retrieved from a freshly dug grave at the young man's house.

"Beba assaulted you and then murdered you and even had time to dig a grave (kama zile za waislamu) and went ahead with his business as usual. He went to the market as usual and was even seen yesterday chewing his miraa like nothing happened," said Westkagu.
"Today, he even had the audacity to ask your mum if they had found you. We refuse to be silenced when our children are being killed and hurt by 'humans'who are either pedophiles, psychopaths or sociopaths," he said.

TUKO.co.ke reached out to Westkagu, concerned about the safety of the woman who had called out the Macharia for leaving with Tamara.

She maintained that there was no need for worry.

"Yes, she is safe," said Westkagu.

Westkagu was even angered by systems put in place that fail us because of the cultural way of doing things.

"Dear leaders from Nyeri and beyond, I am not asking for much but in this case, use the same energy you channel towards fighting personal supremacy battles...and bring justice to the vulnerable!" she said.

Child safety experts have condemned the rising cases of violence against minors in Kenya, urging both the public and government to take immediate and decisive action to protect vulnerable children like Tamara.

Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co. Dr. Miriam Wanjiku, a child psychologist and trauma counsellor, emphasised the grave psychological betrayal that occurs when harm comes from someone familiar to the child, often seen as a protector or caregiver.

“When a child is harmed by someone they know and trust, the psychological trauma extends beyond the victim to an entire community. It shakes the foundation of safety that children rely on to grow and develop emotionally. Tamara's case is not just a criminal act; it's a breach of social and emotional trust that our systems must not ignore,” Dr. Wanjiku told TUKO.co.ke.

She added that such cases highlight the urgent need for stronger child protection frameworks, mandatory psychological assessments for individuals working around children, and community-led awareness initiatives to recognise early warning signs of grooming or predatory behaviour.
