Mathare: Baby Girl Thrown to Safety as Mum Died in Fire Recovers from Eye Injuries
- In the early hours of the morning, a fire broke out in Mathare and many families were left devastated
- The fire that ravaged the area engulfed the house of a young mother and when she realised that she couldn't save herself, she threw her baby girl, Wesney, out of the house
- Although the girl was saved, she ended up with a huge, swollen eye and thanks to the intervention of former governor Mike Sonko, she was treated and now looks better
Mathare, Nairobi: A little girl who sustained eye injuries after her mother threw her out of their burning house before she died is recovering well and the injuries have gone down.

What happened to the baby girl?
In the sad May 19, incident, five people, among them two children, were killed as a fire broke out and ravaged the area.
The father of baby Wesney survived but was unable to walk well because of the injuries he sustained in the sad event.

On Tuesday, May 20, the sorrowful family went to visit former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko on foot and sought his help in getting medical attention for the injured baby.

How is the Mathare girls' new look?
In a video shared on Facebook, the little girl is seen looking smart and she could see from both eyes. She flinched and cried a little when a woman touched her eye but later on looked smart as she looked better as she interacted with Sonko.
"The healing of the baby Wesney after her mother's death," said an excited Sonko after the Wensey and playing with her.
In place of the swollen eye with a slight cut was healed skin and the swelling had significantly gone down.

Nairobi man and family perish in fire
A devastating fire claimed the lives of a family of five and brought grief to all who learnt of the incident.
The victims included a father, mother, and three children, who had moved to Nairobi from Emuhaya to look for greener pastures.
After learning about the incident, Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba called for justice, safer housing, as well as improved emergency response systems.
