Alois Cheruiyot Bett's Mum Says Slain Catholic Priest Son Was Breadwinner, Seeks Help

The most affected family member is the deceased's mother, Eunice Bender, who has been living in agony since her son's death.

A cloud of sorrow and loneliness hung over Eunice as politicians visited her home.

She was seen wiping away tears during an emotional gathering as she mourned her beloved son.

Father Cheruiyot's mum's plea to Ruto

"I have lost my child, and he was my support. I humbly ask for your prayers. President William Samoei Ruto, please see us and help us. We have struggled. Father Cheruiyot was educating many children, and he was my personal support in everything. Now, what will I do?" she asked painfully and desperately.

Cheruiyot's sister, Cynthia Jerop, echoed her mother's sentiments as she also mourned her brother.

Jerop pleaded with the government and relevant authorities to act swiftly and arrest those responsible for her brother's death.

"We are sincerely asking the government to take action and arrest those who participated in the killing of the priest," she said.

Father Amos Rotich noted that the murder of Father Cheruiyot had sent shockwaves through the community.

The entire church and fellowship at Holy Family Catholic Parish, Old Lessos, was shaken by the tragic events.

"Alois was a man of God. He was not a police officer, and he had no weapon. He was going to spread the good news of the Kingdom of God. We are humbly asking all people living around Kerio Valley to help the government identify and capture the suspects," he said.

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Kipchumba Sudi was among the politicians who visited to console Cheruiyot’s family.

"I joined Emgwen MP Josses Lelmengit at Cheplasgei, Kilibwoni Ward in Nandi county to condole with the family of Catholic Priest Alois Cheruiyot Bett, who was slain by criminals. Father Cheruiyot was a steadfast peace advocate and devoted spiritual leader. Those behind his killing must be found and face the full force of the law," he said.

Oscar Sudi's plea to Kenyan leaders

The politician urged Kenyan leaders to unite in an effort to end the senseless banditry and killings along the Kerio Valley.

"It is dishonourable for any Kenyan leader to shamelessly politicize the killings in Kerio Valley, disregarding the lives lost and the suffering families.
We must unite to address the root causes of these evil acts, not fuel violence with divisive sentiments," he added.

Priests, nuns mourn Father Cheruiyot

In another scene, a heartbreaking video showed priests and nuns in tears as the body of Father Cheruiyot was retrieved from the crime scene.
