Waithera went missing on Wednesday, May 21, when she was said to have been sent to deposit KSh 250,000 into the M-Pesa owner’s bank account.

However, the 23-year-old never got to the bank, prompting a frantic search from her employer, family, friends, and the police.

Where was Waithera's body found?

Details indicate that her body was later retrieved from a dam at Technology Farm, which is part of the Rift Valley National Polytechnic.

The remains were collected after locals complained of a foul smell in the area and taken to a Nakuru County mortuary.

Family members were alerted about an unidentified body at the morgue on Wednesday, May 28, after which they identified Jane Doe as their missing kin.

Ann Nduta, a relative of the deceased, told the media that they received the news with shock and disbelief.

Nduta called on relevant state security agencies to investigate the matter and apprehend all those behind the woman's death.

Kenyans demand truth about Waithera's demise

The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, and a postmortem is expected to be conducted soon to determine the cause.

Police say investigations are ongoing.

Waithera's hubby had tiff with police

The tragic discovery came after a week of anguish and unanswered questions and counter accusations between the police and Waithera's family.

Her husband, Zacharia Karanja, had gone public with pleas for help, accusing police of focusing more on the missing money than on searching for his wife.

The teary widower recalled the last conversation he had with the mother of their child before she went missing.

According to him, Waithera had called him at around 1 pm and requested KSh 1,500 for her hair, which he sent. That was the last time he would speak to her.
