What followed was a long and emotionally draining wait for approval from the Social Health Authority (SHA).

The extended delay saw her remain in severe pain as her surgery kept being pushed ahead without explanation.

Her online plea for help triggered a massive response from social media users who shared and amplified her story.

How much was Wangeci's medical bill?

Wangeci’s plight touched the hearts of thousands of Kenyans who mounted pressure until the long-awaited SHA approval of KSh 336,000 was finally granted.

From friends and family to total strangers on the internet, the outpouring of support played a critical role in securing the medical help she desperately needed.

Wangeci clarified that SHA paid for the total hip replacement only, but she added the rest for lengthening her leg.

Now recovering at her home, the sensational Gen Z TikToker reflected on the whirlwind of events that followed.

Wangeci hoping for better future

Though the surgeries are behind her, the road ahead is still long, as doctors have advised her to rest at home for the next three to four months as her body heals and the bone begins to grow and strengthen.

She remains under close medical observation and follows a strict recovery plan to ensure proper healing and avoid complications.

“I’m still weak, but I’m hopeful,” Wangeci shared. “Some days are better than others, but I’m finally out of the hospital and surrounded by family. That alone has given me so much strength.”

As she continues her recovery at home, Wangeci is filled with gratitude and a deep desire to pay it forward once she is fully healed.

Why Wangeci needed surgery

Wangeci, who had lived with excruciating pain caused by a dislocated hip since birth, had always depended on a crutch due to a 10cm difference between her legs.

The hip replacement and leg lengthening surgeries will correct the anomaly to enable her to walk without orthopaedic legs.

She still faces months of rest and rehabilitation, but she now walks a path paved with hope and second chances.

Her journey is not over, but for the first time in a long while, she is finally walking it with peace of mind.
