"I joined mourners at Chirichiro Sub-location, Ibeno Ward in Nyaribari Chache constituency to mourn the untimely death of Mwalimu Sheila Mokaya and her daughter Lency Amelia, who were, in the crudest and most cavalier manner, robbed of their lives.
"A story meant to be laced with love and commitment took a sudden turn into violence and death. Two innocent souls now rest side by side. There are no words that can ease the heartbreak of the family and friends, and no explanation can justify this loss," said nominated Senator Esther Okenyuri Anyieni, who attended the burial on Friday, May 30.

Esther Okenyuri condemns femicide

She condemned the rising incidences of femicide and called for immediate action and justice for victims.

The senator offered her condolences to the bereaved, who were heartbroken as they bid farewell to Sheila, a junior secondary (JS) teacher, and her daughter.

"Sheila and her daughter were eulogised as calm, humble, and lovely. We will remember the light they carried and the bond they shared—one that not even death could sever. May their souls rest in peace. Let us unite to speak out against violence, and may we never normalise any form of violence or tendencies that lead to it," Anyieni added.

Sheila’s mother could not hide her grief as she watched her daughter’s and granddaughter’s coffins being lowered into the ground.

She was inconsolable as she mourned her loved ones, who were brutally killed by the GSU officer.

After shooting Sheila and Amelia, the officer turned the weapon on himself.

TUKO.co.ke reached out to Jane Murimi Mugo, a family expert on how one can overcome loss.

"Crying is very imporant. It is okay to mourn. Acceptance saves a lot and no one should lecture or advise anyone on how to deal with grief. Everyone has their own way. Be vulnerable, let yourself out without thiking about your dignity or anything," she said.

Kenyans console Sheila's family

Social media users mourned with the bereaved and other mourners as they followed the burial online.
