"I received a call, but the voice on the other end was unfamiliar. The caller asked me if I was my husband’s wife, and I confirmed. He then told me that the phone’s owner had been involved in a road accident and they were trying to notify his loved ones. They found my contact saved as 'Wife' and decided to call.
At first, he said my husband had been taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to severe injuries. However, I was later informed that he had passed away," Wambui narrated.

Wambui felt unsafe and deeply disturbed by her father-in-law's behavior and feared the situation could escalate further.

She had three young children to care for and no source of income.

"I had to hurry my plans to leave Nakuru because the situation was worsening. I knew that the longer I stayed, the more vulnerable I became. I could have even ended up pregnant by him. I decided to leave without informing anyone and returned to Nairobi to find a way to support myself and my kids. Since then, I have never gone back. After all, my husband was gone, and there was no strong bond between me and my in-laws," she said.
