“My last boyfriend refused to take responsibility for the fifth child. He claimed he was not the father. At that time, my eldest child and the three younger ones were in school, so I was with the fourth and the unborn fifth child.
I was struggling to work at a bar where I had gotten a job. It was not easy for me, especially after the rejection by my last lover. I saw the fourth child suffering so much, as he was still young. I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to give him up to a children's home,” she painfully narrated.

The pressure mounted when she decided to return to her late parents' home, only to find out her brother had sold it.

“He had mentioned it sometime back when I had stayed at his place for a while. I didn’t know he had already sold the place. I had nowhere to go. No money, no food, no house. Nothing at hand. The food we were eating came from the garbage. I was looking for bread and leftovers to feed my children. We were sleeping on corridors. We barely had bedding,” she said.

Good Samaritan rescues Wambui, her kids

A good Samaritan came to Wambui’s rescue by giving her and her children a place to stay and a few utensils to start life with.

It wasn’t much, but it was enough for them to survive as they hoped for a better future filled with life and good things.

“It is tough for me and for the kids. I keep thinking about my child in the children’s home. I have these other kids who look up to me. Sometimes I go out to look for menial jobs but return empty-handed. It hurts when the kids ask what I’ve brought and I have nothing to give,” she wept.
