Why can't Alice secure any more loans?
At just 19 years old, Njenga finds it incredibly difficult to balance caring for his ailing mother with the thought of continuing his education.
“It is tough because we’ve tried almost all avenues. I was looking for a loan using our title deed, but due to a bad score on the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), it was tricky. It left us with no other means,” he noted.
“Some lenders pardon, but most do not, and the loans continue to accumulate due to interest. We now owe over KSh 1.7 million. The interest rates are added differently and outrageously,” he added.
How can one contribute towards Alice's welfare?
To raise money, Njenga runs an online shoe store. Additionally, since his mother was a caterer and he studied catering, he takes on some of her orders to earn extra income.
“I took on the responsibility to make everything possible at home since I’m the only one available. My younger brother, who is 11, is in school and used to take care of mum before I came home. I have to be the man of the house and the breadwinner. It’s not easy, but there’s hardly anything else I can do. I just hope she gets well,” he shared.
As Njenga remains hopeful his motehr will get better and get to her feet, the family shared how wellwishers can financially contribute towards Alice's medical situation.
