Alois Bett: Needy Boy Supported by Catholic Priest Breaks Down During Slain Clergyman's Burial

Nandi, Kenya: A little boy was inconsolable as slain Father Allois Cheruiyot was buried in an emotional ceremony held at St Michael’s Terige in Nandi county.

How did Allois meet the little boy?
In an emotional Facebook post shared by Nick Koech Tinget, it emerged that the little boy spent a lot of time with Allois and that was why his breaking down moved many to tears.

The little boy is not a stranger online and the young one first shot into the limelight when he appeared in graduation photos with old crocks and not well-polished shoes like the other graduands.

After seeing his photo, many people were touched by his predicament and among them was Father Allois, who stepped in to support the boy in October 2024.
"He bought him shoes, dressed him in a new school uniform and casual clothes, and began supporting his family with regular visits and food supplies," said Koech.
"Today, the boy and his mother woke up at 3 am to catch the only matatu that leaves Kerio Valley at 4 am, determined to attend the funeral service of the man who had shown them unwavering kindness and support," he added.

Kenyans ask who will help the boy now?
It was not lost on many that the tragic passing of Father Allois and his burial at Holy Family Parish Ol Lessos, the boy had lost both a father figure and a true friend.
"May the Lord comfort him in the days ahead, for life will never be the same again. I sincerely hope the Church steps in to care for his well-being, in honour of the late Father Allois Bett," he said.

Last WhatsApp text slain priest wrote
In another story, a WhatsApp message showed how Father Allois spent his last moments on earth and really hurt Catholics and other Kenyans.
In the message, Father Allois shared that he was in the hills and had just attended a jumuiya session, which entailed faithful meeting for prayer and some preaching.
On the hills, the young priest looked happy and content while donning his priestly garb, and carrying a small suitcase as well as a walking stick.
