A heartbroken mother from Barnabas, Nakuru county, is inconsolable following the tragic loss of her loved one.

Mary Ndumia could not hold back her tears as she mourned her young son, who was attacked and killed.

Maxwell Ndumia Kathure was attacked alongside his brother Briton at their home on Friday, May 23.

"Late Maxwell Ndumia succumbed to severe knife injuries while doctors tried to save his life. The cuts were so deep and, despite the heavy bleeding, he managed to run to a nearby hardware store to alert the public that his brother was close to dying in the compound after the brutal attack," a Facebook post read.

The post went on to say that the attacker struck both boys in the compound and attempted to dump them in a pit latrine but failed.

Instead, he threw them behind a fence, where they were left bleeding profusely.

During the burial of the eight-year-old, Mary was overwhelmed with sorrow as she bid her son goodbye.

She was supported by two women, one on each side, as she grieved her young son, whose life was brutally cut short.

Mary almost fainted on the emotional day as she struggled to come to terms with Maxwell’s death.

Nakuru pastor's message to Mary, bereaved

Other mourners sympathised with her, understanding the pain of a mother burying her child due to such an untimely and tragic death.

As people made their way to the grave, Mary paused briefly, leaning on the shoulders of the two women beside her.

A cloud of sorrow and pain hung over the mourners as they surrounded the grave.

The pastor urged everyone to take heart as they laid the little one to rest in the emotional ceremony.
