Before the burial, Mary sat beside her daughter’s coffin, silently and bitterly weeping. She buried her face in her hands, trying to hide the sorrow and pain that was too much to bear.
A woman next to her tried to console her, but Mary’s heartbreak was profound.
She leaned on the woman for support as the presiding pastor delivered a powerful message to the gathered mourners.
Other mourners stood behind the white coffin, shielding themselves from the scorching sun under the tent that housed Waithera’s body.

Their faces were marked with sorrow, some staring helplessly at the coffin as tears streamed down their cheeks like a waterfall.
The mourners then proceeded to the gravesite for the final rites.
After the body was lowered, a few family members took turns pouring soil into the grave—some with their hands, others with spades—before walking away.
When it was Mary’s turn, she was still being escorted by the two women who held her tightly. She struggled to pick up a handful of soil, avoiding looking into the grave, and nearly collapsed during the painful act.
She appeared to faint, and the women quickly carried her away from the site to provide first aid.
