“Can someone please explain why this has to be done if you're a twin? I don’t want to sound ignorant. I’m just hoping someone can kindly educate me. What is being done here? Why must it be done?” one netizen asked.

Emmah Shinga Mufambi:

“The twin has to go into the grave before the deceased is buried so that the surviving twin won't follow or have suicidal thoughts. #ZimCulture”

Yeukai Jemwa:

“My dad was a twin. He had to do this, too. He started from the coffin—he had to lie inside for a minute before placing the deceased twin in. Then the same was done in the grave. It’s a cultural practice to separate them.”

Tebogo Lekgau Lekgau:

“This is culture, and this practice was meant to honour the bond between two people. The Bible wasn’t originally ours—it was brought by the whites. This is a black cultural tradition. Twins were believed to carry two spirits in one body, so their separation was marked by letting the surviving twin lead the way for the departed.”

Emmah Mankwana:

“I refused to do this nonsense. I'm a twin, and my twin sister passed. Please don’t do it. Where is this in the Bible? I live by the Word of God!”
