Gekonde Ferdinand, her cousin, told TUKO.co.ke that the young mother of one had been washing clothes for her one-year-old baby when she suddenly disappeared.

“It was on Tuesday, June 17, and it was about to rain. Faith was rushing to finish washing the clothes when she ran out of water. We believe she went to fetch more from the borehole, but no one actually saw her heading there,” said Gekonde.

Who found Faith Nyangweso’s body?

A few minutes passed, and Faith’s mother-in-law, who had last seen her washing clothes, began to wonder where she had gone. She started searching the house and the compound, but Faith was nowhere to be found until she noticed a jerrican lying next to the well.

“She looked inside and saw the young woman’s shoes floating in the water, and immediately raised the alarm,” Gekonde said.

The grieving cousin noted that no one knows exactly how Faith ended up in the well, and the family keeps questioning whether she slipped or perhaps felt dizzy and fell.

“Her body was retrieved and taken to the mortuary as we now begin planning for her burial,” he added.

How did Faith’s husband learn of her death?

Gekonde shared that Faith was six months pregnant and happily married to Geoffrey Oyunge Ondieki. He said Ondieki was not at home when the tragic incident occurred and is now emotionally overwhelmed, struggling to come to terms with the devastating loss.

Gekonde recalled the painful moment the widower discovered that both his wife and unborn child had died.

“We had spent the day together, and he had left to run some errands in Kisii Town. Later, I received a call from one of our neighbours saying he could hear cries and wailing from our home,” he said.

Curious and concerned, Gekonde called home and was informed of what had happened, but couldn’t bring himself to call Ondieki with the news.

Moments later, he saw the young father riding his motorcycle back home, only to be met with the heartbreaking news of his wife’s sudden death.
