Thika: Eyewitness Gives Blow-By-Blow Account of How Cop Was Shot Dead with Own Gun

  • SPIV policeman Benard Koome was on duty when he saw a suspicious motorcycle, but when he went to check into the matter, his gun was used against him
  • According to an eyewitness account, three people were walking together and suddenly the thug took the policeman's gun and shot him
  • The assailant shot the officer in the throat, took off and hijacked another motorcycle from the gruesome scene
  • Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the Thika Nursing Home and his death sparked outrage among Kenyans who knew him

Thika: A Special Police Intercept and Verification Unit (SPIV) police constable was sadly shot by a thug in broad daylight, and one woman saw how it all happened.

How did Benard Koome die?

The officer, identified as Benard Koome, confronted a rider operating without the required registration code for boda boda riders.

The young woman, part of a group of three, said they had crossed to where there were pineapples when the thug was asked for the code for his motorbike. He tensed up.

"They started walking away, and after a short distance, he snatched the policeman’s gun and shot him in the chest, with the bullet going through to his back," she said.
“A man had left his motorcycle across the road. The thug asked him and his passenger to get off, then grabbed the motorcycle and fled. He took the motorcycle to Section Nine, left it there, and boarded another one to escape," she added.

How did the man steal the mask?

The owner of the motorcycle that was stolen said that when the thief grabbed it and took off, he urged his friends to chase after him.

"He ordered us to get off the motorcycle or he would shoot us. I quickly let my passenger off, then I chased after him," he said.

Authorities recovered a loaded Ceska pistol magazine from the scene, and senior police officers have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.

Outrage as Benard Koome is killed in cold blood

Another story revealed that as soon as news of Koome's death spread, Kenyans from all walks of life came out to condemn the incident.

He was fatally shot in the neck while attempting to intercept a suspicious motorcycle in Kahawa West.

Kenyans rallied behind the dead officer with moving messages; they remembered him as a dedicated worker who died in the line of duty while protecting the community.
