"I remember the last time I talked to him. It was around 11pm. He told me he was completing a delivery and would come home afterward. I called him around 1.30am, but no one answered. Until now, the phone is still ringing, but no one is picking up.
"He was delivering liquor to someone who had parked at Rubis when he was shot," she said.
The suspect, Peter Langat Chumo, was taken to the Kasarani Police Station as investigations got underway.
DCI's statement on Macharia's shooting
The story took a new twist when a preliminary statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) indicated that Langat claimed he and the deceased were close friends.
They were allegedly hanging out together that night when a minor disagreement arose, leading to a struggle over a gun.
Langat claimed the weapon went off accidentally—a narrative that sharply contradicted earlier reports and left more questions than answers.
"I just want justice for my son," Macharia's mother pleaded.

Macharia's mum eulogises son
Speaking to the media, the bereaved mum recalled her last moments with her slain son, further describing him as a kindhearted and loving person.
She said Macharia was a quiet man, fondly remembering how the family would often forget about his presence at the dinner table due to his calm and serene demeanour.
She narrated that the young man used his first salary from the liquor store job to buy her some milk as a sign of love and appreciation.
"He had just started the job for three weeks, and I was so happy when he used his first salary to buy me something. I didn't know he would," she narrated.
The mother said, despite her son being shot at midnight the previous night, she only learnt about the heartbreaking incident on Thursday, May 19, at 9.30am.
In a strange twist, the liquor store where the deceased worked denied he was a staffer, only admitting that they knew him, but not as an employee.
