Gen Z Protests in Kenya: Last Messages, WhatsApp Chats of Missing Protestors after June 25 Surface

Several Kenyans reportedly went missing under unclear circumstances during the Gen Z memorial protests.

Families and friends have been left deeply worried as they search for their loved ones.

Rahma yet to return home after June 25 maandamano

Marketer Nyandia Gachago took to her X account to share a thread listing the names and details of those who have seemingly disappeared.

“I’m doing a thread of missing people from yesterday’s protests. @JamesKWaNjeri for easy trackability. Please feel free to add,” she captioned the post, bringing attention to the profiles of Kenyans who disappeared under mysterious conditions.

She also included some of the last messages and chats of the missing Kenyans, providing insight into the moments leading up to their disappearances.

Rahma from Mlango Kubwa was among those who had not yet returned home after the chaotic maandamano.

Boda boda rider helping victims in Nairobi disappears

Another name on the list was Jose Maandamano. His case was particularly heartbreaking. A boda boda operator, Jose had been helping injured protestors reach nearby medical facilities.

"Hi friend. I am not safe. I have been taken. I do not know these people. I think they have been following me," read a chilling message he sent around 1:30am.

He had earlier been photographed holding a Kenyan flag, smiling for the camera, before the protests turned violent.

Allan Maina, who took a selfie near an iconic statue, was last seen in Nairobi’s CBD at 7:54am, wearing glasses and holding a Kenyan flag.

Omondi, Kipng'etich remain missing after June 25 protests

Reagan Omondi was reported missing after allegedly being arrested by plainclothes officers who had infiltrated peaceful demonstrations in Mombasa county.

He managed to make a distressing call to his brother from the Central Police Station in Mombasa.

Koros Kipng’etich messaged a friend around 4:49pm saying he had been arrested and taken to Mlolongo Police Station.

Sebby Apudo and Derick Munyiri were reportedly detained at Ruaraka Police Station. Gloria Gakuru was allegedly assaulted by the same officers and left for dead.

Kenyans on X react to missing people reports

Social media users flooded the comment section with emotional and hopeful messages for the safe return of the missing:

In a related story, a young girl was reported lost and traumatised after the chaos in Nairobi.

Yvonne Nyambura had been in the company of her sister when they were separated while fleeing from police.

During the confusion, the two lost track of each other. Nyambura was later rescued by a well-wisher, Amakove Wala.

Wala also noted that the young girl had been hit by a tear gas canister but received medical attention and was doing well.
