What was the businesswoman's prayer?

Outside the shop, there were phone covers and papers strewn all over, a testament to how destructive the goons were and the damage they caused.

"The things you have stolen will deny you peace," she said, going on her knees.
"Dear God if you are the one I pray to please return what I lost with something else. I was taken from the bedroom and told about this by the man who sells me covers," she wailed.

Gov't condemns looting in hard-hitting statement

On the afternoon of June 26, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen released a hard-hitting statement condemning the protests, which he described as politically instigated to cause terror and anarchy.

Murkomen said the protests were deliberately coordinated, funded and premeditated.

In regard to the looting experienced, he said:

"The massive looting had a clear motive to cause fear and target the properties of politicians and civilians allied to the Government. The orchestrators of the violence went back to the safety of their homes, leaving Kenyans at the mercy of goons and criminals."

The CS noted that the Inspector General of Police, through the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, is already carrying out investigations to apprehend and bring to justice the organisers and financiers of the "well-orchestrated campaign of violence."

"Rest assured that the government will pursue justice relentlessly on behalf of all affected Kenyans. No person will be spared regardless of their political and financial status," he said.

He further praised protesters from counties such as Mombasa, whom he said held organised and peaceful protests.

In another story, hundreds of Gen Z protesters from different parts of the country came together and commemorated the first anniversary of the people who died in the 2024 demos, but there is a lot of pain afterwards.

For instance, apart from protesters and police dying or getting injured in clashes with police, looters struck unchecked and destroyed property and stole goods worth millions in Nairobi and other towns.
