However, social media influencer Tanner Martin did just that, announcing his own death in a video that was beautiful, humorous, and deeply sorrowful.

Tanner from Utah, United States of America, had seen death coming after a five-year battle with colon cancer.

In a pre-recorded video shared on an Instagram account he ran with his wife, Shay Martin, the 30-year-old informed their followers that he had passed on.

He explained that he wanted to make it easier for Shay to grieve, giving her space away from social media and sparing her the pain of delivering the difficult news to their followers herself.

“Hey, it’s me, Tanner. If you’re watching this, I am dead. I decided to make this video announcing my death because I saw someone do this a year or so ago, and I thought it was a good opportunity to get all your thoughts out and also be thoughtful about what your spouse or your partner may need,” he said in the clip shared on 25 June.

In the video, Tanner thanked their fans for unwavering support throughout his life and especially during the cancer battle. He asked them to continue supporting Shay and their daughter, AmyLou, affectionately known as Jiaozi, who was born on May 15.

“I would ask if you could continue to offer prayers and support for my sweetheart, Shay and my baby girl Jiaozi. We should have most of our finances covered, but Shay can let you know if she needs anything,” he added.

He recorded the video while sitting on a couch, with his beloved daughter beside him. In it, Tanner made his final request and wish.

“I just wanted to ask you guys to help me raise Jiaozi. We’re going to start a GoFundMe to help replace what I would have provided. My income, babysitting, her schooling, wedding, and all the things I would have done with Shay if I were still alive,” he said.

Tanner added that even prayers for his daughter would mean the world to him, and he ended by thanking everyone who had shown their love and support.
