“Did I come with sirens or honks? So why did you all run away when I drove in?” he asked, puzzled.

Those who eventually returned explained that they feared for their lives, citing a recent shoot-to-kill directive issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

Police officer asks public to trust him

The directive, issued in the wake of rising attacks on police stations, has instilled widespread fear among civilians.

“We saw what happened the other day, and the CS said anyone found near a police station should be shot,” one resident explained.

The officer, who maintained a calm and approachable demeanour, quickly convened an impromptu meeting to allay the fears.

He assured the public that the directive did not target innocent citizens and emphasised that police officers are mandated to serve and protect, not harm.

“If you have no ill intentions, do not shy away from approaching a police officer. We are employed by the government to serve you,” he told the gathering.
