A man from Kiambu county who went missing abroad under mysterious circumstances is yet to reunite with his family.

Reuben Waithaka disappeared on Sunday, May 15, while attending his grandson’s graduation in the US.

Despite the family reporting the incident to the police, creating posters, making online appeals, and obtaining CCTV footage of his last known sighting, Waithaka remains missing.

When did Waithaka went missing?

Elaine Westry Njoki, Waithaka’s granddaughter, took to TikTok to share some updates about her missing grandfather.

“My grandfather Reuben Waithaka has been missing since Wednesday, May 15. He was visiting from Kenya for my cousin’s high school graduation. It has been very difficult for my family and me, but we won’t give up. Please keep us in your prayers and share the word. Thank you for all the love and support,” her caption read.

The heartbroken young woman clarified details regarding the venue where her grandfather was last seen, as there had been some confusion.

Where was Waithaka last seen?

She confirmed that her grandfather was last seen in Calera, Alabama, and not Seattle, as many had thought based on earlier reports.

“Seattle is where I live, so I just wanted to make that detail clear,” she said in her viral TikTok video, which garnered hundreds of comments.

She also opened up about the state of the family following the disappearance of the 73-year-old.

“It hasn’t been easy. I appreciate all the support and love we’ve received from friends, family, and even people we don’t know who have been praying for us. We truly appreciate it. We don’t take it for granted. It’s a blessing to have a village behind you in situations like this. Just continue praying for us. On behalf of my family, I say thank you to everyone who has stood with us through it all,” she added.

Reuben Waithaka's last moments caught on CCTV

A few weeks ago, the Kenyan man's disappearance shortly after arriving in the US deepened, with CCTV footage providing the last known glimpse of the elderly man.

The footage showed him leaving the house after telling his wife he was going to check on his car. That was the last time anyone saw him alive.

The 70-year-old, who walked with a noticeable limp from a knee issue, had been accompanied by the family dogs, but just minutes later, the dogs returned home alone.

As his wife set out to follow him, she suddenly remembered she'd left the door unlocked. She turned back to secure it, a decision that would later prove tragic.

Reuben Waithaka's family turns to prayers

In a separate development, the family turned to prayer after a long and unsuccessful search for their loved one.

The elderly man’s wife and family members sought spiritual and divine intervention nearly a week after his disappearance.

The family of the missing man continues to urge the public to help them reunite with their loved one.
