In the morning, the protests were largely peaceful, and the young people were even seen greeting and taking photos with the policemen.
Why was the bus burnt?
Things, however, changed later, and there were running battles in the streets between the police and demonstrators, who had earlier insisted that they were peaceful.
Things went from bad to worse in the evening when goons are said to have infiltrated the peaceful demonstrations, and they started stealing from people, torching police stations and businesses, and even burning vehicles.

Why was the bus at Kikuyu police station?
In Kikuyu, the law courts were torched, with Majority Leader of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wah saying that they wanted to hurt his father too but were prevented.
Sadly, the bus belonging to Muturi's mum was not spared in the mayhem.
"The bus belongs to my mother, and this is a huge loss because it is used to carry pupils from Musa Gitau Primary School in Kikuyu and serves the society," he said.

" It was not in custody, we used to go park it in the police station for security purposes. It was the norm and right now we are on midterm. We don't know how they will be going to school," he added.
Will insurance pay for a new bus?
Autoguard Insurance Agency CEO Titus Kiarie told TUKO.co.ke that the insurance can pay so long as the bus has a comprehensive cover with political risks and terrorism extension (PVT is usually added to the main cover at additional cost upon request by the client. It's not automatic.)
"Political violence and Terrorism (PVT) insurance covers an individual or company against physical loss and damage, because of a terrorist act or acts of political violence such as riot, strike, civil commotion, revolution, war, civil war, rebellion, insurrection, sabotage, coup d’état and malicious damage, and consequential looting," he said.
"It can occur as a stand-alone cover or as part of another policy such as Motor Vehicle insurance or Home Insurance commonly called a rider," he added.
