Since he earned a meagre salary, he went many days without food to ensure he saved most of it as he hoped for better days ahead.
“I used to send her money monthly, part of it for her upkeep and part of it as my savings. I had a dream to come back and start a business,” he said.
Unfortunately, his contract was abruptly terminated, forcing him to return home earlier than planned.
Dream start crumbled
Despite the setback, he was optimistic that the savings he had diligently accumulated over the years would give him a fresh start.
But his dream quickly crumbled.
“I asked my mother about the money, and she kept taking me in circles. At some point, she claimed it was in a merry-go-round,” he recounted. “Eventually, I pressed her for the truth, and that’s when she confessed to having used the money.”
According to her, the money had been used on paying fees for his younger siblings, a need she felt was more urgent.

How much had mother saved?
The confession shattered him, adding that his mother's words tore his heart like a sharp knife, leaving him with a mixture of emotions.
What made it worse, he added, was the knowledge that his mother understood the sacrifices and struggles he endured in a foreign land to send that money home.
"I felt like crying, fighting, or screaming. I couldn’t believe my biological mother had done this to me,” he cried.
While he expected to have hundreds of thousands in savings, his mother told him she only had KSh 40,000 remaining.
As of the time of recording the video, the young man revealed that he had not reconciled with his mother and was battling depression.
