A family in Kitengela, Kajiado county, is mourning the painful death of their loved one, who lost his life on Monday, July 7.

Protesters were further angered upon learning about the death of the 21-year-old.

Brian Kimutai’s unnecessary death, along with several others who sustained gunshot wounds, sparked outrage that boiled over.

"That is my younger brother over there who has been killed. He was shot twice — once in the neck and once in the back. He had lifted his hands. He wasn’t doing anything wrong. He wasn’t vandalising anyone’s property. He was kneeling, hands raised in surrender, pleading for mercy," Kimutai’s brother claimed.

Kajiado demonstrators defend Kimutai

Demonstrators turned their fury on the Kajiado Sub-County Hospital, forcing medical staff, including nurses, to flee for their safety as violence erupted.

Agitated protesters demanded justice for the young man whose life was cut short by two bullets.

"We are being killed every day. What have we taken from them? What have we eaten from them that we must pay with our lives? They have killed one of us, okay? He is neither the first, the second, nor the third. If they are after blood, let them tell us," one protester said.

Another demonstrator narrated how police began firing live bullets to disperse the crowd.

He held one bullet in his hand as evidence to support the claims.

"When Kimutai lay on the ground, he was shot in the neck. The police came to the hospital when we brought Kimutai here because they wanted to take away the body — but we refused," he said.

Kenyans sympathised with the grieving family as they expressed their frustration over what had transpired.

Kangemi man shot dead during Saba Saba demos

In another story, a woman from Kangemi, Nairobi county, was in tears after losing her son during the protests.

Elvis Musavi was shot dead during the Saba Saba maandamano while returning home from work.

His mother recounted their last conversation before receiving a distressing call concerning her son’s death.
