Collins was born with a urethral condition and underwent his first surgery at just one year old, a painstaking journey.

“My medical appeal has finally been answered. I still can’t believe it. After all the pain, the surgeries, the tears, help has come and healing is on the way," Collins said.

His spirit was crushed when he thought the surgery he had in April 2024 would be the end of his suffering, but it failed, which left him dependent on a suprapubic catheter to help me pass urine.

Collins Kipngetich's family relieved

Collins admitted that the journey has been one of pain, uncertainty, and immense challenges as it drained him emotionally, physically, and financially.

Despite the odds being stacked against him, the young man continued to fight because he believed in brighter days ahead.

Cheptoo Songok, a close family friend, urged the government to step in and support families facing similar challenges.

“This is the time for the government to think of how to help families who go through so much to access treatment. There should be a waiver from the Ministry of Health. There’s no need to sell land, the government should always cover heavy medical bills like this.”

Experiencing a rare moment of relief and gratitude, Collins’ mother disclosed that she was lost for words as it had not been easy. Finally, she can sleep at night.

Collins' family sold land for treatment

Before the new development, several harambees had been held but failed to meet the target.

This forced Collins’ family to sell their land and relocate so they could use the remaining funds for hospital bills.

However, the funds were all used up, yet the condition remained untreated, leaving him frustrated and unsure of the next step.

He thanked all Kenyans who stood by him when he needed help the most, adding that he will undergo surgery at PSRI Hospital.
