  • Inside a city hotel, patrons were having meals while cooks and waiters were also performing their daily duties without a care in the world
  • It wasn't until the sounds of gunfire came nearer that people knew how dangerous it was for them, and they had to go down and hide

A video showing how terrified customers rushed to hide themselves under chairs and on the ground to avoid being shot by police on Saba Saba day has caused mixed reactions.

June 7, aka Saba Saba, is usually set aside to commemorate the agitation for election reforms and having more political parties in the county.

This year, it was marked by running battles and protesters being locked out of the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) by the police.

What happened in eatery during Saba Saba?

A small eatery in the estate with a few customers was near the hot spots, and when customers heard gunfire, their reactions left many who watched the clip torn between laughing and feeling sorry for them.

Two men dramatically fell from the seat, and while one stayed put, the other one moved like a snake on his stomach and kept warning to the others in an inner room to go down.

When one seemed too stunned to know what to do, the man who was lying on his stomach hit him on the head to forcefully make him lie down.

At this point, it seemed that the goal was not to get shot by any means, and they got out while fine.

Heartbreaking clip shows man's last moments before death

On July 7, 2025, quite a number of families suffered heartbreak, as many people lost their lives, because of the Saba Saba chaos.

For instance, a young man in Ndumberi, Kiambu county, was just minding his business at home when the police allegedly lobbed teargas in their house, which sent him outside.

When he reached outside, he complained bitterly about it and shared his stand on political matters.

Sadly, he was shot in the head, and just like that, he died on the spot, which left his family in great pain.
