At the time, they did not know that it was their kin, whose origin is Nyeri county, who had faced such a cruel fate.
"Wachira's parents got a call from his girlfriend, who had waited for him to return home to no avail. She later went to check on him at the hospital, but didn't find him either. The devoted woman later found him at the General Kago Hospital mortuary in Thika," said Wanjiru.
"Wachira was not even participating in the demos, he was at his garage in Juja when a stray bullet hit his neck and he died. We shall have the autopsy on Friday, July 25, 2025. All we want is justice, we need people from far and wide to know what happened to our relative and the inhumane way he was treated," she added.

How did Kenyans react to Wachira being dragged by police?
Since the footage started circulating online, it has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with Kenyans expressing shock, sadness, and anger at the police’s actions.
At the time of the gruesome incident, the officers did not offer any medical help and instead seemingly treated the body like evidence while horrified witnesses filmed the affair, which was a chilling scene.
"It is sad that even the other protester trying to intervene was beaten and chased away, with other officers just following the cop dragging Wachira," said Wanjiru.
The family has not started planning for the 37-year-old's burial and has promised to share sendoff arrangements as they emerge.
