Ides Wairimu Mburu is allegedly facing death threats from her stepfamily over a long-standing burial dispute.

How many wives did James Mburu Kinani have?

The disagreement involves her father, James Mburu Kinani, whose body has been lying in the morgue for months.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Wairimu, a daughter from Kinani’s first wife, noted that her late father's body has been in the morgue for eight months.

"There is a fight between the first family and the last. My dad had four wives, and I am a daughter of his first wife, who is deceased. My dad had three more wives and families, but the last wife came with nine children, none of whom my father sired. The first three families get along well, but the last family is the one causing issues," she claimed.

Wairimu said the feud intensified after the death of her 92-year-old father, who passed away at AIC Kijabe Hospital.

Where should Kinani be buried?

Following his death, the first family insisted that, according to Kikuyu culture, Kinani ought to be buried beside his first wife.

"However, the last family does not want to adhere to tradition and culture. They want to bury him in Gilgil, Nakuru county. We don't understand why there is this rift, but they are adamant about it.
"When my dad was sick, my sisters and I took turns caring for him in the hospital, each of us spending a day and night with him. We even asked the sons from the last family to help, but they refused, telling us to find someone else. They didn’t want to take responsibility. Yet, after his death, they showed up claiming his body," she claimed.

Wairimu said the matter escalated to court after the last family sought a court order to bury the deceased.

Is Kiambu's deputy governor involved in burial dispute?

On the other hand, Wairimu and her family are seeking an appeal to bury their father in accordance with their culture and with respect.

"The last family, my stepfamily, has a prominent figure: Rosemary Njeri Kirika, the deputy governor of Kiambu county. She is my stepsister. I reached out to her several times to resolve this issue. But I remember after contacting her, by the next evening, the family had secretly made plans to take my dad's body at night and bury him.
"They also have a lawyer in the family, my stepbrother, who sent me threatening WhatsApp messages saying he would come for me...He even insulted me, but I have no issue with that. My concern is...why they are so desperate to bury my father," she alleged.

Wairimu says she fears for her life as she is the one following up on the matter and pushing for justice.
