Lilian (not her real name) shared that the situation at home has worsened to the extent that her mother now denies her food.
She said she feels stranded and heartbroken, noting that she is just beginning to get back on her feet after losing her job some time ago.
Why is Lilian in her parents' house?
The devastated young woman explained that she previously had a job and was stable enough to return to school.

However, her resources became depleted, and work opportunities dwindled. As a result, her mother suggested she return home.
“My father was against it. He said I shouldn't reach a point where I come back home after leaving, and that at my age, I need to be stronger and hustle through thick and thin. My mum kept it hidden from him for almost three months,” she shared.
Six months after moving back home, Lilian had no source of income and was fully dependent on her mother.
Since she was still studying, she decided to take on odd jobs to save money for tuition.
She explained that tensions began when her mother started monitoring her every move, constantly asking for explanations about where she was going and what she was doing.
“Given her religious background, I sometimes pretend to visit a friend, but end up doing BA alcohol promotions behind her back. I do this because she won’t allow me to work in a club,” she stated.
Due to the nature of club work, the 25-year-old once came home two hours past her curfew, and that’s when the strained relationship with her mum began.
“My mum was furious with me and hasn’t spoken to me since, even when I try to talk to her. She cooks, cleans, and does everything on her own. Yesterday, I got an impromptu gig and went without informing her. Around 9.30pm, she called and asked where I was. She also asked to speak with whoever I was with, which I declined, telling her I was doing my own thing. She hurled some hurtful words at me and claimed I don’t respect her that I’m doing all this just to find an excuse to rent my own place or get married,” Lilian shared.
She added in a Facebook post that her mother even threatened to curse her.

Lilian said her mother eventually calmed down but remained firm: she either had to move out or find a man to marry.
“So now we’re not on speaking terms. She finally had the courage to tell me to either get married or move out,” Lilian said.
She mentioned that she only gets to eat when her uncle visits; when he isn’t around, her mother instructs her younger siblings not to call her for meals.
“Today, I came home from my morning hustle at around 10am, and she told my younger sibling not to open the gate for me. In my absence, they say I’m the worst child, the black sheep, while my brother is considered perfect. The good thing is she’s told me to take all my things and start life on my own. I might as well carry all the electronics I gifted her, lol,” she added.

In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that a single mother of three in Nairobi was moved to tears when her daughter asked her to consider remarrying.
Mirriam Allans said the conversation was sparked by a WhatsApp status in which she wished her friends true love.
In response, her daughter told her she needed to find love, too, as one day she and her siblings would get married and eventually leave home.
She expressed concern that her mother would be lonely and, therefore, needed a partner.
