Speaking on Ayo TV, the District Commissioner of Namtumbo in Ruvuma Region, Ngollo Malenya, condemned the alleged heinous crime by the woman from Kwizombe hamlet, Mkulukugulu ward.

According to Ngollo, 30-year-old Wande Luchagula allegedly killed the children by hacking them with a machete, then set her co-wife's house on fire.

"Wande's act was triggered by jealousy, as she believed that her husband loved and favoured the kids of her co-wife because they were light-skinned," said Ngollo.

How come no one stopped Wande?

It has emerged that Wande was able to allegedly kill Lugola Lutelemla (4) and twins Kulwa Lutelemla and Dotto Lutelemla, who were eight months old, as their mum and other people were busy harvesting farm produce. Their dad was away shopping for the house.

Other children at home who witnessed the incident reported that Wande allegedly started with the twins, then went for the firstborn, who was unwell and lying in the yard. She had earlier told him to report to his mother that she would have to get other kids.

"I have three wives; when I woke up, I greeted my wife, and she told me that she has a stomachache. I told her I will return we go to hospital and we didn't argue with my wife," said the polygamous man.
"When I returned, I found a huge crowd in my home and my remaining wives crying then I saw my kids on the ground, with the first being outside," he added.
