Nairobi: Desperate Cab Driver Says Car on Verge of Being Auctioned over KSh 500k Loan

  • Caleb Tito is among Kenyans who are facing the auctioneer's hammer, as he has yet to clear a KSh 500,000 loan
  • Just as with any other person who wants to stand on their two feet, Caleb approached a microfinance firm and asked for the amount, which was the deficit for him to get a car
  • He had been paying the loan well for some time, but sadly, health concerns arose, and he was unable to complete payments

Nairobi: Kenyans are reaching out to a young man, identified as Caleb Tito, who shared that he is about to lose his house and car over a KSh 500,000 loan in a heartbreaking video.

In the video, Caleb said he is a firstborn at home, and he has been trying to make a better life for his widowed mum and siblings at home.

"I am about to lose it; it looks like Mutua's fate is going to be my fate and all I have is hope fading away," he said.

"I am actually at work; I have been inspired by Mutua to speak up; the same thing that happened to Mutua happened to me. I have been trying to do business, but issues of health affected everything," he added.

Why is the car so important to Caleb?

Caleb's car is his source of income, and he took a loan from Haki Finance because he needed a vehicle and was short of money.

"I tried to pay it, but these issues of sickness prevented me from paying it. I work hard; sometimes I work for 24 hours and sleep for one hour but it is never enough. I didn't want to steal from anybody," said Caleb.
"There are many young people who die outside here every day; they get into accidents and so on because things are not working out for them.
"I tried to take my own life in primary, secondary, and university. Hope kept me going; as men. As men we don't share what we go through but when we do we have our backs against the wall," Caleb told TUKO.co.ke.

While explaining that he is also an employer of five, Caleb shared that it was going to be difficult to keep them on as well.

"I'm about to lose everything this week. I'm not very strong. I lack sleep and don't have appetite," he said.
"Many have encouraged me not to give up so the idea is I get some money and get out of default," he said.
