A TikTok video has captured a strange moment that has since left many social media users baffled.

The incident raised eyebrows as netizens tried to make sense of the unusual practice.

The clip shows a funeral held in western Kenya, as indicated by the text overlay in the video.

Kenyan priest stands beside coffin

In the video, the burial had reached its final stage, the only part remaining was the lowering of the coffin into the grave.

The coffin was placed beside the grave as the mourners, led by a priest, prepared for the final rites before bidding farewell to the deceased.

A large crowd of mourners had gathered, among them members of a distinctive church, identifiable by their unique attire.

As they moved in a particular direction, a man and the priest officiating the emotional ceremony stood beside the coffin.

Coffin covered in white sheet before burial

The wooden coffin, draped with a white sheet that touched the ground, appeared quite large.

The man opened the upper part of the coffin and uncovered the deceased’s face, which had been veiled by another white sheet.

Almost immediately, the priest stepped forward, moving closer to the coffin. Stooping slightly, he appeared to inspect the body.

Holding a Bible in his hand, he leaned toward the deceased as the crowd watched in silence.

He touched the body, seemingly speaking to the man who had opened the coffin, as seen in the clip.

Afterward, the priest and the young man jointly covered the deceased’s face again.

They proceeded to open another section of the coffin, seemingly repeating the same action.

However, their actions were abruptly interrupted when a concerned mourner questioned why they were opening the coffin at that stage.

Netizens react to bizarre burial practice

Mixed reactions flooded social media. Some viewers expressed confusion, while for others, the video stirred painful memories.
