Who sponsored Nancy Jelimo’s education?
Despite performing well, she was met with financial constraints that threatened her progress.
However, her community came together in a fundraiser that enabled her to join Kerotet Girls High School.
She completed high school with the help of bursaries and the little support her parents could provide.
Jelimo later gained admission to the University of Kabianga, where she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Education, majoring in Mathematics and Chemistry.
After graduating, she worked as a PTA teacher at St. Joseph Kibagenge Secondary School, earning a modest monthly salary of KSh 10,000.
Although the pay was insufficient to meet her family’s needs, especially her daughter’s school fees, Nancy remained hopeful.

How did the Uasin Gishu woman get to the UK?
While seeking better opportunities, the young woman secured a chance to pursue her Master’s in the UK, but once again faced financial hurdles.
Her beloved mother sold a small piece of land inherited from her father to help fund Nancy’s travel and tuition abroad.
Jelimo told TUKO.co.ke that life abroad was not easy, but her determination and desire to make her mother proud kept her going.
“Life in the UK was far from easy. I had to take on various jobs, including construction work (mjengo) and caregiving, just to survive and pay for my studies,” she said.
She shared that despite the challenges, she managed to graduate and is now in a position to comfortably provide for her family and beloved daughter.
“But I thank God I’ve made it. I graduated, and my daughter is now in a good school. I can finally provide for her with dignity,” she added.
Jelimo said she hopes to use her knowledge and experience to make an impact in the education sector back home and inspire other young women facing similar challenges to pursue their dreams.
