What happened to the Malindi family?
The six were heading to their home in Unitas, Gauteng, South Africa, when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a truck on the R42 Meyerton–Heidelberg Road on July 14, 2025.
They were returning from the burial of one of their relatives when tragedy struck. The truck driver, however, survived the accident.
A grieving family member said they were shattered by the devastating loss, explaining how shocked they were when they received the tragic news.
“They were coming from the funeral of Lungi Malindi. We said goodbye to them, not knowing it would be the last time we would see them alive,” he said through tears.
According to The Citizen, police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini shared that officers responded to the accident scene, where they found a light motor vehicle had collided with a truck.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Malindi family were attempting to overtake the truck when the driver lost control, resulting in the fatal crash.
