"When I heard the second gunshot, I tried to open the door. When I did, I saw people getting on a motorbike as they fled," said Hashim Mohammed.

On that fateful night, Kamene was not alone, except for the moment she was attacked by the gang.

Moments before the incident, she had been with her nephew, who recounted the last moments with her.

"I was with her before she was killed. We closed the shop together, and I left her behind to eat supper at a nearby hotel. As I ate, my younger aunt, who had been with her, rushed towards me. When she approached, she told me that my aunt had been shot," he said.

They noted that it was not the first time such an incident had occurred in their area and called for tighter security.

"Even now, she was our source of help, our breadwinner. All I am asking and praying for is justice to prevail for my sister," she said.

Mary Wambui, a popular M-Pesa agent in Nakuru town told TUKO.co.ke such businesses were targets because there was a lot of money.

"Especially in the evening when people are closing shops, the business has some money and if you don't bank soon enough, you can lose all of it. I advise agents to e be careful and always be on the lookout. Even the cash they handle sometimes they can be given fake notes so they have to be very vigilant and alert," she said.
