Just a week earlier, on March 15, the vibrant young nursing student had taken what would become a deeply symbolic photo, the last one of her standing tall, unaware that it would mark the end of life as she knew it.

How Lizzy O lost mobility

Eight days later, tragedy struck. Lizzy’s car flipped multiple times in a devastating accident, leaving her with severe spinal cord injuries that would change the course of her future.

She was rushed to the hospital and spent months undergoing intense physical and occupational therapy.

Lizzy also had to relearn the most basic skills like feeding herself, dressing, and sitting up, tasks she had once taken for granted.

“The hardest part was accepting I could no longer use my legs like I used to,” she recalled. “It felt like I was grieving the old me.”

But even in the face of despair, Lizzy refused to let go of her dream. One year after the accident, she bravely returned to nursing school, determined to complete what she had started.

Then came an unexpected twist in her story. A young man she had met and taken a photo with at the event she attended before the crash reached out.

What began as a reconnection turned into romance. Eventually, he asked her to be his girlfriend, and not long after, he proposed. With tears streaming down her face, Lizzy said yes.
