The half-open brown coffin was positioned at the centre of a room, placed on top of two large stones.

The room was occupied by people, seemingly family members and mourners who watched the coffin in silence and despair.

An explanation as to why the fan was placed next to the coffin was not given by Esther or her family.

Esther’s video sparked a wide range of mixed reactions, with many netizens questioning the purpose of the fan while others offered explanations and sympathised.

In a subsequent video, the mourners were captured singing and dancing while surrounding the coffin, seemingly a traditional way to bid the deceased farewell.

Women with wraps around their waists participated in the dance to honour Esther's mother.

What did netizens say about Esther’s mum’s coffin setup?

Some netizens shared personal stories of poverty and grief, expressing empathy and calling for more compassion and support for struggling families.

Ashley:

“When you go through this situation, it is not easy the lack of money to give your parents a befitting send-off with dignity. At least they have a coffin. My mother was buried with boards people made, and as young as I was, I still remember how my heart broke. Today, more than ever, I work hard to ensure my family has a dignified home and lives the life we always wanted.”
