Giana Wangari, the little girl who died as a result of alleged negligence at the Kenyatta National Hospital, has been buried in a heartwrenching ceremony.

Wangari was the daughter of Susan Wanjera, who desperately interrupted Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale while he was holding a press conference at the KNH.

During her speech, Wanjera explained how she lost her child, Giana Wangari, who had undergone stomach surgery at the national hospital before things got worse.

How did the KNH nurses treat Wangari?

"They weren't doing anything; they just told me that the child was fine, but at 6 pm his condition started worsening. I carried her in my arms, and she eventually died in my arms. They told me to put her down and then pronounced her dead,' she said.
"From 2 pm to 6p,m no one came to check on my daughter. The pathologist said she had pneumonia and an infection and they are the ones that made her organs start to fail," she said.

How was baby Wangari's burial?

A cloud of pain hung over the home of baby Wangari, where she was buried. Her mother and other family members were overwhelmed by grief, and at some point, Wanjera had to be helped to prevent her from falling down.

"All I want is justice for my baby, Giani Wangari. That is why I got the attention of the CS and told him," she said.

At the time, Duale responded with regret and directed a formal investigation into the matter with express instructions to have the results of the investigation sent to him.

He asked the distraught mother to go and report the matter, and also wanted action taken against the nurses involved. When he asked if she could identify the nurses involved, Wanjera said she could not, and the CS demanded that the nurses on duty at the time be paraded in front of her for identification.

Baby held in ICU over KSH 3m

In another story, Esther Ulavu was overwhelmed when she was told that she could not see her baby in the ICU unless they paid KSh 3 million.

Esther had taken her baby to the hospital for a routine checkup, and they got a referral to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), but instead of being driven to the national facility, they were transported to Abyna Hospital in Eastleigh.
