“She is my firstborn. She had only been working for the past two weeks, and when she complained to me about her colleagues, I told her to quit. But she refused, saying I should at least let her finish one month,” she said.

Elizabeth said she was against her daughter working at a bar, but Precious convinced her she needed the money to start her life.

The devastated mother shared that Precious had been advised that if working hours stretched late into the night, she should not return home but remain at the bar until morning for safety.

“She had returned home the previous two nights, but on this fateful day, she didn’t. In the morning, she still hadn’t shown up at her usual time around 6 am, and her phone was off.”

At 11 am, one of the employees entered the locked lodging room through the window but came out saying there was no one inside, only for them to later discover that Precious was dead.

Elizabeth has called for swift investigations into the matter and for those responsible for her daughter’s death to be brought to justice.

Why is there a rise in femicide cases?

TUKO.co.ke talked to Cleopa Kinyua Njiru, a counselling psychologist who shed light on the probable causes of the current rise in femicide.

Njiru shared his opinion on why men find themselves reacting violently to certain situations in relationships when provoked.

He said one reason for such cases is a lack of role models and people to look up to.

“These men are not well informed when it comes to relationships, and that, coupled with the demands put upon them on their relationships plus heartbreaks, breed trauma and feelings of revenge,” he stated.
