Wilson Kiiza, a market vendor, had reportedly separated from his wife, and the two had been co-parenting.
Kiiza’s children, aged 14, 12, 8, and 5, primarily lived with their mother but often visited him to spend time together.
However, on Saturday, August 2, when they visited him, tragedy struck.
Did Wilson Kiiza kill his children?
The 44-year-old man reportedly lured the four children into a banana plantation where he allegedly poisoned them.
Before his death, one of the children told police officers that their father had allegedly mixed some medicine and claimed it was meant to prevent coughing.
After drinking the mixture, he allegedly gave them a soft drink, after which they began experiencing stomach pain.
Ngogona village secretary for defence, Wilson Isingoma, said he arrived at the scene after receiving reports and found the children critically ill.
"I was told the children were unwell and, upon my arrival, I realised they had been poisoned. I immediately contacted the LC1 chairperson, who arranged emergency transport to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital,” Isingoma told Daily Monitor.
Unfortunately, two of the children were pronounced dead on arrival, one succumbed hours later, and the fourth remained in critical condition.

Why did Kiiza allegedly kill his children?
The suspect’s sister, Grace Nyakahara, told police officers that she was unaware of his intentions, as he always spent time with the children during visits and nothing had ever gone wrong.

"He returned from the banana plantation carrying two children who were in very bad shape. He was also feeling unwell, and I gave him a room to rest. However, their conditions worsened, and we rushed them to hospital," Nyakahara said.
Kiiza's uncle, Sam Kahumuza, condemned the act, describing it as an "unbearable loss", and called for reflection.
Albertine Region Police spokesperson, Julius Hakiza, confirmed the incident, noting that investigations into the deaths of the three children were ongoing.
He stated that Kiiza, who had also taken the poison, was receiving treatment in the hospital and would face murder charges upon recovery.
According to Hakiza, the man’s actions may have stemmed from an unresolved domestic dispute between him and his wife.
"Wilson Kiiza will face charges of murder by poisoning. His case highlights how unresolved domestic disputes can have deadly consequences. Families must seek peaceful conflict resolution,” said the police spokesperson.
